Saving Small Lives: Our Special Care Baby Unit is Open!
In Northern Ghana, 1 in 5 babies are born prematurely. Outside of the main teaching hospital, there is nowhere for them to go—until now.
The King’s Village has officially launched the only district Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) in the region. Our mission is simple: to save premature and sick babies lives.
The Impact So Far: We are already delivering results. Our first three patients have just been sucessfully treated, including a 31-week-old baby who survived thanks to our CPAP machine, and a newborn who was treated for critical breathing difficulties.
The Roadmap:
Phase 1 (Happening Now): We are using existing resuscitaires and training staff to provide immediate life-saving care. We need your help to fund oxygen concentrators and cots to complete this stage.
Phase 2: Expanding our capacity to care for 8 babies simultaneously with advanced incubators and crash trolleys.
Phase 3: Building a "Kangaroo Care" village—traditional-style housing for mothers to stay with their babies during long recoveries.
